Teaching symbols: demonstrate the format, not production marking codes.

On many marked products, Chestny ZNAK uses the GS1 DataMatrix format. It is a square two-dimensional code.

Its main visual feature is a solid L-shaped finder pattern on two adjacent sides. The other two sides alternate dark and light modules.

That is what separates a marking code from a QR Code. A QR Code uses three large square position markers in its corners.

A linear barcode is also not the same thing. However, it is extremely useful because it helps identify the GTIN of the product.

In shops and pharmacies, staff often call the marking a “QR code” or “KIZ”. For search behaviour that is normal, but technically the symbol is GS1 DataMatrix.

If there is any doubt, send both the square marking and the linear barcode. That gives us the fastest route to a correct analysis.
